Photoshop’s Dodge and Burn tools are used to adjust an image’s light and shadow values. The Dodge tool lightens areas of an image by increasing the brightness and the Burn tool darkens areas by decreasing the brightness. These tools are often used to create contrast and depth in images, as well as enhance specific areas or blend them together. In the toolbar, there are a number of options for adjusting the strength of the effect when used with a brush or gradient tool.
